Default Only Bull or Bear?

This post is inspired from my friend Phani who asked me whether the market is now in Bull or Bear. I was a little surprised to hear that. how could we classify the market only to Bear and Bull where both Buyer and Seller exist and both think in opposite direction. Irrespective of what one thinks this is a fact.

Generally A bull is characterised by increased optimism while the opposite is also true for bear

For a beginner to market I would quote Deng Xiaopeng

Quote:
“It does not matter whether a cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice”

analogy
It does not matter whether the market is bull or bear, as long as you are reaping profit from it

Happy Investing

Classic bull & bear markets characteristics are important for medium and long term traders

The answer to that question lies here:
What is a 'trend'

in other words, your friend wants to know whether mkt is in uptrend or downtrend...
school book says if scrip/index is making higher highs & higher lows, then it is said to be in uptrend

but answer also lies to the "timeframe" of the chart you are viewing
the daily may be in downtrend or sideways, but weekly may be up

so, take your call (and your puts)

Apart from bull or bear there's another state - nowhere -which is the most difficult to milk imo, specially on higher than intraday tfs (I'm still learning how to do that most efficiently).
