All you need to know is the dividend per share (DPS) announced by the company and the price at which you bought or intend to buy the share.

Then dividend yield (as %) = (DPS/share price)*100

PE and EPS do not figure.

Some companies announce interim dividends and a final dividend.

(Previously, things were a little more complicated as companies used to announce dividend as a percent of face value but now SEBI requires the dividend to be announced per share.)

@50+ - Still it is % per face value.

Also there is no calculation in the price nowadays wrt dividend ...
Maybe when there is major announcement wrt div i.e. BIG TIME dividend announced then a jump of equivalent amount maybe imo ... else its all factored in ..

Yes in MFs etc this reduction does happen i.e. if 1/- announced per unit then NAV reduces by 1/- per unit on ex-date.

Hi MurAtt ji,

Here are a couple of links re. the business of how dividends should be declared. That it may not be followed is because we are like that only!

1:
Quote:
Mandating that listed companies should declare dividend only on per-share basis, Sebi said, “Presently there is no uniformity in declaring dividend. Declaration of dividend as a percentage of face value has the potential to mislead the investors in case face values of the shares of two companies are different.”

2:
Quote:
“It has been decided to amend the listing agreement so that listed entities declare dividend only on a per share basis instead of a percentage of the face value,” Sebi chairman C B Bhave said.
