I use c2d desktop does all the purpose.

What is your RAM spec ddr2/ddr3?
Share mobo model number?

Upgrade RAM only then if your mobo support it. Else you need to upgrade cpu components.

@Tuple old system Ram is DDR 2 and forgot the Mobo model number . Nearly 3.5 yrs old . Forget about it Tuple .
It is better to go for an upgradation once in three years . Concentrate on what can be done within this budget - give or take 2 thousand rupees .
an i3 or equivalent Amd + Windows 8.1 + if possible an SSD too .

If the old system is > 2 years old, then it is best to sell that off as a complete working system and buy a new one. Intel and AMD release new generation CPUs every year. RAM will also typically change with the cpu & motherboard generation. Hard disk specs and interface speeds change every 3-5 years. Also most people will want a hard disk upgrade if their disks are > 2-3 years old. Nowadays, you dont really need a optical drive. I havent made much use of one in the last 5-10 years.

So when you are upgrading a old system, all you will re-use are the cabinet, power supply, keyboard, mouse and monitor. Mostly it is best to just get a new cpu cabinet and re-use the keyboard, mouse and monitor. In a lot of cases you will even want to upgrade these components.

On a modern system, all you need is a cpu, motherboard, RAM & hard disk. No need for a optical drive or a dedicated graphics card if you want to run 2 monitors for charting and trading.

For me, Windows 10 works better. Speed, battery saving etc are better in same machine. Only one problem regarding hardware related that I have to select sound output device as default for that device to give output.
