Default Laptop dead

My year old HCL laptop just turned belly up. It just refused to start. The tech support says its mother board has conked out.

What should I do? Can't afford to replace a laptop every year.

Sorry to hear that! I think electronic items have some built-in sensor that makes things go phut, immediately post-warranty!

Maybe they do code it .. some lucky fellows get it ...
(like how some cos distribute to buyers by embedding gold coins in products)

My 20GB HDD (way back) went kaput exactly 1st day of warranty expiry ...

I am at my wits end at the moment.Does this happen regardless of the brand or is HCL specifically defunkt. I ve been to their forums and not very many happy customers there.

Its plain simple matter of chance.
If u desperately need it.. go buy a new one . get the cheapest

Dont bother with repairs.. its not cost effective.

My first Laptop .. HP.. P2 bot in 1999. still working fine- daughter uses
Cost 1.25 lacs

2nd laptop .. Compaq Presario in 2003. working fine now son plays games . Cost 30,000/-

Present Laptop... Acer.. Aspire 1 (atom processor).. All my work.. videos
stockmarket, MP, MD videos done on it..
Doing fine. for last 6 mths Cost 20,000/-

Moral... Buy the cheapest laptop... Absolutely no resale value
Repairs r prohibitevely expensive.

If mobility is not required, why not go for a desktop.......

each & everything can be replaced anytime, and most of times, w/o any need of a technician.
They are nearly half the price of similar config lappy

But I do need mobility. Besides what about the power cuts...

BTW is our local quality really that bad , I've had a Compaq before this it gave me 5 years of service, trashed it because it became too slow, and it was made in CHINA.

Running on compaq. Had a Memory+Processor+Motherboard replacement "under warranty".

Since then no problem for last 3 years except for being a bit slow!

Any day Go for Dell. Please refrain from Compaq and HP. Low battery capacity after some months and also high heating!

I vaguely remember that Dell tied up with some service or the other. Sorry, can't be more helpful. But you can enquire at their 1-800 number.
