This is not what one'd IDEALLY like to have, but the most cost effective soln for special situations (which in my case is continuous battery power for as long as possible).

Lenovo i3 Laptops are available at under 45k with 8hrs battery backup. These high battery life models are relatively new to the mkt 6-9 mths down the line they'll get cheaper (particularly the core2duo ones, if available) That'd be the time to buy one (In the meanwhile will look to dispose off my current dual core lappy at the best price it can fetch).

If you want battery life + power + real compact size in a notebook, then look at the following:

1. Vaio Z models from Sony. These are quite expensive, around 1.1l for a current Vaio Z. But it comes with 6GB RAM, 64 bit windows 7 professional, high resolution 13.1" screen with 1600x900 resolution, 128GB SSD in RAID0, nVidia graphics and 4-5 hours of battery life with a weight of around 1.4kg.

2. Thinkpad X series notebooks: These are 12" notebooks with no trackpad and w/o a cdrom drive. The standard battery on current models last 7-8 hours. These are extremely popular with executives who travel a lot. I have seen these laptops do not have the fastest cpu or the best specs, but the current x201 & x201s models have cpus that are fast enough for even the most demanding tasks. Outside India you can also get a X series tablet, which has a convertible tablet format.

My main purpose is getting a touch screen with maximum display size and longer battery life.If we get 4-5 hours instead of 2-3 it would be an added advantage.I want to reduce
use of mouse and trackpad.Since I would like to run 4 to 5 charting and trading softeares
the higher the configuration the better.
Thanks for all those who rendered their suggestions.

There's a Core2Duo model in the same Thinkpad Edge series that comes just under 40k Also an AMD Turion X2 model at around 32k. Both with 13in screen, 6pack Li-Ion, 2GB DDR3 RAM, the HDD though is 5400rpm.

Yet to see either.

The ThinkPad Edge series do not really look and feel like the traditional ThinkPads.

I have been a long time ThinkPad user. After lenovo took over the ThinkPad brand from IBM, things are not like they used to be. There was a time when you could pick up any ThinkPad and know that you would get a great system.

These days, I would suggest anyone considering a ThinkPad to not buy a model before reading reviews and seeing the notebook themselves.
