Default Setting up for set-ups

(Yeah, I know, I am now a content stealing jerk. See CV's The Physical Plane blogpost.)

Must Haves:
  • Monitors
    • Trade Execution
    • Charting/Backtesting/Setup indentification
  • Data Server
    • EOD
    • Intraday/Tick-data
  • CPUs
    • GPU, RAM-rich -- for testing
    • Commonly available stuff -- execution
  • Keyboard
    • Give the Macintosh keyboards a try
Optional:
  • KVM Switch
    • If you are loathe to have too many monitors/keyboards/mouses around
  • Headphones
    • You need good music, don't you?
Edit: Perhaps not germane to the original post, but I'll post anyway; don't be swayed away by 64-bit processors, not even if your mother-in-law's selling it. The state of 64-bit hardware support leaves a lot to be desired. Even if you have your mom-in-law present you with one, never commit the third cardinal sin of installing a 64-bit OS. Drivers are just too hard to get for these beasts; it's better if you'd shot your mom-in-law in the first place.

Last edited by skarpio; 05-04-2009 at 04:56 PM. Reason: Rant about 64-bit

There's a software solution for that. It's called multiple workspaces. Most OSs worth their salt have this feature.

Also take a look here.

U require a VGA card , like MATROX Parhelia , there are many. The multiple monitors are connected to VGA card. I had 3 hooked to one CPU through MATROX VGA card. Then you would like to work in extended mode , all three monitors become part of one extended space accessible through single mouse.

Care to elaborate a bit on Data Server Software & other related information? Also, why you put charting/backtesting/setup info under Monitors?

You will need some sort of stand or framework to support monitors not easily available

If you do go for it, do post back what you got and where, for how much and how it is working out
