Default Hello to all friends.

Hello everyone!

I am new to blogging and forums. I have been trading for a few years. I am not very familiar with this habit of posting online yet.

I found it really hard to find my way around this forum. I have alternatively made an id on another forum which I found to be almost the same. I have not received any reply there so I am hoping for some more activity on this forum.

Since I am new, I would appreciate it if someone could guide me to topics which garner healthy discussions among the fellow members of the forum. I like sharing ideas and thoughts (although I am not used to doing it online), and would like to learn from other members as well as share my experiences so that I can reciprocate.

Thank you,

Regards,

Jitendra

Can someone please guide me through this forum.. I wanted people's views and opinions on the following topics:

1. How to maintain a trading dairy
2. Is my current trading platform good enough or should I change it to gain a competitive advantage.
3. Portfolio Management

Why I am looking to discuss on these topics is because I was on a fantastic run a while ago. I was making winning trades and was profitable. But as every traders does, I am in a slump phase. So in order to recover, I would like people's opinion on the following topics

Why I am looking to discuss on these topics is because I was on a fantastic run a while ago. I was making winning trades and was profitable. But as every traders does, I am in a slump phase. So in order to recover, I would like people's opinion on the following topics

1) Start a blog. A blog can open doors to many professional trading jobs, if ever you get bored of trading from the premises of your home. Learning to trade from other professionals at prop or some hedge fund is a lot different from what you learn on forums or TA books.

Recently i got trained on spot FX trading by a trader at Benn Funds (AU). A lot of myths about forex trading was cleared when i learned:

a) FX is massive, BUT the entire liquidity is controlled by 5-6 dealers in Tokyo / Singapore / London and NY WHO ALL KNOW EACH OTHER (If you think this does not matter, you will realize this later on, on your own)

b) Not one of them trades complicated models or methods.

c) Macro trends in bond markets, interest rates are primary drivers and those are evident on major charts.

d) Actual technical analysis in FX is simpler than what we are attempting to do.

2) Which is your platform? Most pro's use NT, SC or Multicharts. No platform can help you with bad data quality.

3) No clue about PM. I day trade & liquidate all my position before the closing bell. Risk management & money management sure is an edge if trading for an income.

One reason i speculate for your slump phase is failure to recognize the shift in the market participants (cycles). Volume, Volatility, Sector correlations, relative value etc. give enough cues to judge who dominates the markets. Your indicators & setups should adjust accordingly. Most successful traders are those who can sense a change before others do.

Bye!!!

Bye!!!

Thank you, sir!

First of all, I would like to know whether you are trading in Indian markets? By the sound of your post, you seem to be a trader who is trading in global markets.

Well, my primary focus has always been equities. Although I have taken plenty of trades in the currency market, my focus and passion lies in equities.

I agree with you sir. I guess a lot of us have been trying to use 'Fancy' technical analysis only because it is available. But never the less, I guess with the vast availability, traders should learn how to use the various tools and find their own.
To tell you the truth, I still use basic technical analysis tools for my trading. Nothing fancy. Averages (simple and moving with different time frames), Bollinger bands, and RSI.

I trade in Indian markets and specifically on National Stock Exchange Nifty, and stocks that are listen on NSE.
I have use Sharekhan's prop platform, Trade Tiger and Nest Platform.

I asked about portfolio management more because I wanted to learn about bet sizing. I think I have gone horribly wrong in this aspect.

I think you are right about my problem, sir. I think I should figure this out on my own. But I think what you said makes a lot of sense.
