Use Amibroker and MP Lite afl. i think its available here in kaka's thread or somewhere here.
But for best calculation of TPOs and footprint charts etc nothing comes close to Mkt Delta
But Steidlmayer himself said back in 2006 that MP dont work anymore
Mkts have evolved a lot after HFTs have come into the mkts, the traditional things have fallen apart.People are mistaking activity with liquidity, anyway not the right place to discuss. Individual perceptions, preferences etc will decide what to go after and what not.Just my two cents.
I wonder sometimes when some upwards of 10k shares trade some 3000 times within a second , which software package will plot the activity and what chart will come out of it.

I would also add Ninjatrader to the list of platforms for charting market profile charts.

Ninjatrader can get slow when you are creating charts for many days, but otherwise it is a perfectly viable platform for doing accurate market profile charts. There are many MP indicators available for Ninja. Most are paid. Since you are a programmer, you may want to look at some of the free MP indics out there and modify as per your requirements.

The main problem with Ninjatrader is that most data vendors will not support Ninja. You can use esignal/qcharts or interactive brokers. For market profile charts with TPO size > 5 min, most terminal feeder apps should also do the trick.

In Amibroker, there is the PlotVAPOverlayA function. Look at its reference guide here: http://www.amibroker.com/guide/afl/plotvapoverlaya.html This will allow you to plot a volume at price overlay. Which is useful to see the profile shape and mark out POC & VPOC manually. This is one of the fastest ways out there to generate weekly/monthly profiles using 1 min TPOs.

Even if everybody in this world claimed that MP worked, I would still take it with skepticism. Honestly, how can any thing that is already in the public domain provide an edge? I am not betting on MP. I am only evaluating. And the process described therein does interest me. I am trying to combine it with VSA. Even though I have not found VSA profitable, the fact that both atleast try to objectively look at the market makes them promising.

I don't find a lot of MP things acceptable.

Most commonly, the emphasis is on day, and not a holistic view of price. Even though authors attempt to write something on long-term, it doesn't gel well.

Many times, I have felt that MP jargons are only "obsessive" commentaries. Highly technical names and unreasonably excessive importance is attached given to simple routine occurrences. Just like the vision is clouded when you are to close to something. Moving back a little clears a lot of things.

Nevertheless, I was convinced by some concepts such as TPO(time-price opportunity), diffrent timeframe traders and their behaviors, etc. I am hopeful that with my humble resources, I may be able to decipher the logic. Its seems like a far cry, but I am somewhat optimistic.

I would suggest reading through the books by dalton, steidlmayer and tom alexander.

One way of looking at MP is to look at the MP chart as a way of identifying price levels that have been accepted/rejected by the market. Market tends to spend time at areas where prices are accepted and where two way trade can happen.

I find MP as an excellent way to identify if market is in trending or bracketing phase.

Thanks no1.

I wasn't aware about Tom Alexander's book. Will follow through on that.

Though, I have read Steildlmayer's and Dalton's books, they were older versions which are available freely as PDF files on the net. Not sure how comparable or disparate they are to the latest edition.

Yes, price acceptance and viable looks like a viable concept.

I once read both the first edition and second edition of steidlmayer on markets. Found that the first edition had more readable content. So dont just dismiss the older books.

Also check out don jone's book available on cisco futures site and the cbot market profile handbook.

Another way to look at market profile is to see the movement of market from balance to imbalance to balance and so on.
