Good one. We should make something similar for Indian markets.
Infographic suggests bearmarkets dont last for more than 2 years.

But there is also selection bias, index managers remove non performing components overtime which inflates their performance over a period!

Instead of buying the index, one can buy the large-cap mfs, which are outperforming year-after-year. Because they too follow the churn-activity.

I know people still holding onto jp, rcom etc.. Even those funds may be having them, but once these stocks are out of the top 100, they will also dump it.

Buy the top performing quartile/quintile of the MSCI Index (most closely mapped to FII holdings).

Even better is to stick to Financials, Consumption & Services (minus financials, IT-Pharma mostly) with 50% in non-cyclicals.

Financials btw give you automatic diversification (as they lend to all sectors) but you'll miss out on the cash-rich ones in IT-Pharma-Consumer staples.
