Yeah, I'm working on that. Where can we get a list of co names with nse symbol - with names that sync with money control?

I got this:
http://www.marketonmobile.com/search.php

but there's a bit of a formating issue:
K E C Intl. (in this) vs KEC Intl (in MC)

Yes, there appears to be inconsistency in company names across various sites, so I just stick with the NSE "official" names that are available in the equity bhavcopy.

Thanks Yusi, but we will need to ultimately merge our equity bhavcopy with money control to extract splits/bonus/rights/dividend information based on names. MC doesn't seem to have symbol in the table here:
http://www.moneycontrol.com/stocks/marketinfo/splits/

If we get around this, the rest will be a simple solution

Faith, to do that map, you will first need matching column names in both MC and our database - which we do not have.

@no1, correct me if I'm wrong here.

You need to have some common data.

What you want is a map from

Here are a few things to consider:

. You will need to run multiple algos to match company names between nse's bhavcopy and what you have on sites like moneycontrol. The bhavcopy and nse symbol and full names are the primary master values.

. You will find a perfect match between these 2 sources for a majority of the stocks.

. For the rest, figure out some algo for doing a similar name match.
e.g. just remove all spaces and non numeric and non alpha characters in both the names. Also remove common words like ltd.

. For the fuzzy matching, do a manual check and see that you are not trying to match 2 companies with similar names.

. You may wish to look at ready made phonetic algorithms for doing the fuzzy matching. Look here for a list of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonetic_algorithm Soundex and metaphone are 2 common ones used widely.
