Default Free software & Addons for Trading

Hi all,

Software helps in doing things with speed, accuracy and repeatability.

If (you are a good master),
software= faithful slave.
else
software = devil.

I wish that we all post about the software & add-ons we use regularly to make our trading life easy.

My preferred browser is Firefox, particularly for the add-ons available for it. With all user selected add-ons, no two FF installations are same.

Firefox releases regular updates and the add-ons too get updated to match, though with a time delay.

It may be a good practice to delay the updating of firefox by about a month after release, so that the add-ons that one is using are also updated to work with

the latest FF version. (unless there are compelling reasons)

I will be posting briefs about software & add-ons that I use regularly.

Request all to please post about software that you use regularly as an investor/trader.

Table2clipboard ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1852/ )

Quite often, we find HTML tables at web sites and we wish to copy them into an Excel file for further processing. Yahoo portfolios show us quotes in HTML tables for many (200 per portfolio) stocks and the quotes are nearly live, at least for all those who are not day traders.

More to follow.

Thanks for your time.

Here goes the next add-on for firefox.

NoSquint : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/

Eyes are very important. This add-on protects it.

A trader has to spend long hours in front of the screen, often viewing small text and and with a background not good for the eye.

With this add-on, one can select the font size and background color for each of the visited site independently. This add-on remembers the preferences.

Though not very appealing, grey and it's shades are the most eye friendly.

In addition, a trader may do some eye exercises every hour to reduce the strain of continuous looking at the screen which is at a fixed distance from the eyes.

Long live the eyes!

FireFox Addon: ReloadEvery: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/115/

Quite often, we refresh the web page data manually by pressing 'F5' and wished that this may be done automatically. in all such situations, this addon is of great help. With this addon, the page gets automatically refrreshed at selected intervals, as low as 5 secs.

Keeping a very low (Fast refresh) loads the server as well as your system and internet resources.

Happy Trading !

That colour is my preference as well. But instead of using an add-on, I modified my user.css (in the Chrome browser) to do the needful both for the background and text colour.

One minor caution which most guys may already be aware of: try not to install a brand-new extension. Let others try it first, maybe even a few months, and then pick it up. Recently, Mozilla had to pull out an extension, Mozilla sniffer, that did a little more than it was supposed to do: details.

Hi msr,

Why do you use an addon for this? Why don't you use simply copy and paste special into Excel or Calc or whatever? I do it all the time with html tables in Firefox or Chrome (and .csv files) that I want to manipulate further in a spreadsheet. My broker sends the e-contract note as an html file and I copy-paste from there as well without the need of an add-on.

(Even though I don't have a shortage of RAM, as a principle, I try to keep add-ons to a minimum.)

I use firefox. Though Grey is the best in most of the situations, some sites are better with other background colors. No squint allows user to set a different per site non-default background. This would not be possible by user preferences in the browser.

Yes, It is a very good advice and well taken. All may please make a note of it.

The addons being mentioned by me here are in use for more than a year and are one of the top downloaded in that category. I am using ALL of them for more than a year. I am not connected in any way with any of the addons/developers.

While a very few sites work by the copy/paste method, many because of imperfect/non-standard coding do not work this way. And the Table2ClipBoard helps in all situations with both types of coding. Further, T2C allows to select and copy only the selected columns. I use this feature quite often.

Yes, this is a golden advice. More addons means more RAM and more CPU load surely. But as file size of each addon is small, the extra load is minimal, as long as you use just the required adons.

While on this subject, I add that it is better to use different windows user logins for trading and non-trading usages.

Thanks once again for your responses and keep them coming.

Regards.

Firefox addon : Flash and Video download : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/53003/

Quite often, one needs to download flash videos and other SWF extention files in order to hone-up his skills in trading. I found that this add-on works very smoothly and silently without any bells and whistles. It worked even when similar programs failed to identify the flash content.

I am amazed at all the software.Any trader should find pretty much a program they want to use or they want to try out before they use it.Wave59 trading software is quite new in the trading software arena. It was built by professional traders instead of IT specialist. This software offers a 30 day free trial.
